Álex Pina created the series for Antena 3. It premiered on 2 May 2017 and the original run ended on 23 November 2017, fifteen episodes. Atresmedia and Vancouver Media produced it. Manel Santisteban and Iván Martínez Lacámara wrote the score. The opening theme is My Life Is Going On by Cecilia Krull. The Italian song Bella Ciao is played several times in the series; it was not written for the show. Netflix released the final episode on 3 December 2021.

The Netflix recut
Netflix bought the global rights in late 2017 and recut the first two seasons. Season 1, nine Antena 3 episodes, became 13 shorter ones on 20 December 2017. Season 2, six episodes, became nine on 6 April 2018. This catalogue keeps the original broadcast episodes, because those are the ones with titles. Seasons 3, 4 and 5 were made for Netflix: eight, eight, and ten episodes.

Berlin is a separate Netflix series starring Pedro Alonso. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is a remake. Money Heist: The Phenomenon (3 April 2020) and Money Heist: From Tokyo to Berlin (3 December 2021) are documentaries. None of them is a season here.

The Professor's first plan targets the Royal Mint of Spain, the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre. The second targets the Bank of Spain. The series was shot in Spain and also in Italy, Thailand, Panama, Denmark and Portugal. This is not a street address for a scene.
